PCA is proud to introduce a new Division to its 2004 competitions.
INTERMEDIATE DIVISION
In response to confusion created by the former Tier 2 and/or
"novice" divisions, we have adopted a part of the "Level
Play" system used by many U.S. companies. Certain skill limits will
be followed by all teams opting to compete in the Intermediate Division(s).
NOTE: all of the regular rules of competition and routine format apply
to the Intermediate Division. The following rules are specific to it and
are the standards which will separate the Intermediate Division from the
standard divisions.
Tumbling
- - Standing Tucks and standing handspring back tucks (or layouts, X-outs
etc) are not permitted
- - Tumbling passes may include all flipping elements but no twisting
(fulls, Arabians etc)
- - Jump-Handspring combinations are permitted. Jumps followed by a tuck
are not permitted
- - punch front flips are not permitted
Basket Tosses and other tosses
- - Basket tosses may not include rotations (180 degrees or greater)
- - all basket tosses and other forms of tossing must land in a cradled
position (ie. may NOT land in the prone/face down position)
- - tosses may transfer from group to group but must maintain contact
throughout the maneuver, and cannot twist (180 degrees or greater)
- - double full twisting double bases are permitted only if initiated
from shoulder level
- - free flight "helicopter" tosses (horizontal rotation of
the top) are not permitted
Partner and Group Stunts
- - All one legged and/or one armed extended stunts are permitted, but
may NOT full twist dismount
- - partner stunts and loads which employ an inverted position, must
have constant contact with the bases and the bases must be standing on
the ground. The inverted tops must not pass over the heads of the bases
(ie. must be at shoulder level or lower). If this is in any way confusing,
please call PCA to discuss the concept as it applies to any skill you may
be attempting.
- - tic tocs and/or release moves must have constant contact with either
bases (who are on the ground), or with supporting "mid" bases
(ie. a person on a double base level.
- - extended stunts may be connected (ie. paper dolls etc) and are permitted
Dismounts
- - Full twisting dismounts from one legged or one armed extended stunts
are not permitted
- - Full twisting dismounts from an extension, straddle sit or double
based extension are permitted
- - double full twisting dismounts are only permitted from a shoulder
level double base
- - cradles must land in the "seat first" position. (ie. tops
must not land in the prone or face down position).
- - free flight flips are not permitted (as per PCA event rules)
- - positions during the dismount such as kick, pike, "X",
toe touch etc. are permitted
- - the "dismount" rules also apply to "transitions"
and mounts/loads
Pyramids
- - All pyramids must follow partner stunt, cradle and tossing rules
listed above. If this is in any way confusing, please call PCA to discuss
the concept as it applies to any skill you may be attempting.
- - tops must maintain contact with bases and/or "mid" bases
at all times.
- - tops may pass through the 2.5 high level in transition, but must
not be "held" at this level and must maintain weight bearing
support by the "mid"-bases. If this is in any way confusing,
please call PCA to discuss the concept as it applies to any skill you may
be attempting.
Note to all participants
Coaches and team leaders are encouraged to call PCA regarding
any confusion that may arise from the wording of these intermediate division
rules; 1-800-567-7221 during business hours (8:00am - 5:00pm in Ontario).
Please do not email questions.
Please check with individual PCA events regarding which
Intermediate Divisions will be offered. Not all Divisions will have an intermediate
and advanced splt. PCA reserves the right to combine divisions if 2 or less
teams register. Teams will be notified of such changes if they arise.
This page will be updated and tweaked as needed if any ambiguity
arises. The intent is to make the division rules simple and clear.
